Dr. Beat Richner's lifetime achievements
Professor Dr. med. Dr. h.c.mult. Beat Richner leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary, unparalleled, successful, and sustainable lifetime achievements that deserves our utmost admiration.
He was already a popular and renowned paediatrician, cellist and musical clown when, 27 years ago, he decided to follow the call of the King of Cambodia, Norodom Sihanouk, who asked him to rebuild the Kantha Bopha Children's Hospital that had been devastated in the war and reign of terror of the Khmer Rouge.
From 1991 on, the Swiss doctor successfully built and extended the children’s hospitals in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Through his tireless efforts he overcame insurmountable odds to implement a new, and almost revolutionary approach to providing medical aid in poor countries with free and effective medical care for all.
