Starting in June 2026, Christopher will be joining our team in Cambodia. The medical student will be working at our children’s hospital in Siem Reap for two months. Here, he introduces himself.

Christopher Meeks, 25, Winterthur ZH

I owe my interest in medicine largely to two strong and inspiring women in my life. My mother and godmother are both doctors and have encouraged my fascination with the complexity of the human body from an early age.

For me, our body is and always has been not only a miracle, but also a challenge to understand better. I wanted to study medicine not only to learn more about the body but also to satisfy my passion for the natural sciences.

During a six-month nursing internship at the hospital, I realized that working with other people and interacting with patients also meant a great deal to me. The teamwork and logistics at the hospital fascinated me just as much as the human body itself, and I was determined to become a part of it. The desire to one day become a hand surgeon has therefore taken deeper and deeper root in my heart.

I’m really looking forward to my two-month internship at the children’s hospital in Siem Reap, as it will give me an insight into pediatric medicine and allow me to combine that with my other passion for travel.

For me, witnessing the birth of a child will be something truly special. I’m also really looking forward to learning how to help children overcome their fear of the doctor. So far, I’ve had many opportunities to gain insights into surgery, observe operations, and face physical challenges. Now I’m also excited to discover my softer side, which will definitely be needed when I work with children.

I hope to gain a thorough medical understanding as well as have a fulfilling and emotionally enriching experience. Working in a pediatric setting is so beautiful and joyful, yet I’m also a little anxious about how I’ll handle difficult moments. However, I know that even such experiences will be very educational for me.

With warm regards,

Christopher
